Steel Authority of India added another 0.87% to its recent gains, riding a broader metals-sector rally alongside Coal India after posting a blockbuster Q1 FY27, with net profit more than doubling — up 120.8% year-on-year to ₹1,644.05 crore. The stock has already been on a tear, up anywhere between 40% and 68% over the past year as the steel sector claws back pricing power, and brokerage InCred Equities recently upgraded it to 'Add', arguing that protectionist measures have removed much of the downside risk to earnings. Management sounded upbeat on the outlook too, flagging a demand recovery in the second half and improving margins across the board. Trading at a PE of around 17-19x against a 52-week band of ₹118.1 to ₹209.7, the stock's 1-year CAGR of 45% far outpaces its 5-year figure of just under 9%, though the average analyst target of ₹178.03 across 29 analysts sits below current levels.
