Punjab National Bank shares surged 4.34% to ₹118.98, extending gains after the PSU lender reported a blockbuster 213% jump in standalone net profit to ₹5,253 crore for the first quarter of FY27, up sharply from ₹1,675 crore a year earlier. Asset quality showed marked improvement too, with gross NPAs falling 100 basis points year-on-year to 2.78%, while the bank's Global Net Interest Margin ticked up to 2.50% from 2.47% in the previous quarter. CASA deposits also grew a healthy 7.8% year-on-year to ₹6,13,116 crore as of June 2026, underscoring steady deposit mobilisation. Despite today's pop, the stock remains down 14% on a year-to-date basis and has shed 3.6% over the past month, suggesting today's rally is helping the counter claw back some lost ground rather than mark a full turnaround.
